Concentration Post Entry #3
Does piracy exist in different cultures? If so, will they exist in the future? How have they changed in terms of their choice of plunder? |
Concentration Post Entry #2
The pictures all demonstrate the various forms of piracy, from the 18th century pirates to the Somalian pirates and media piracy. The images all convey a negative tone due to the illegal nature of piracy. The images are very negative towards the subject of piracy, as all of the forms of piracy are highly illegal. The highly negative social view on the subject of piracy is present as all the pictures represent the pirates as menacing and evil in appearance. |
Issues of focus
1. Protest against the Vietnam War
I could visually interpret protest rallies, anti-war propaganda of the time, etc. as well as use the hippy groups as my main visual aid. I could tell more of the story from the viewpoint of the protestors and express more of their ideas and opinions or possibly take the hippies and just place them into a different era, such as during one of the world wars or during the American Revolution.
2. Somalian Pirates
I could possibly focus my work on the Somalian pirates and create art focusing on their actions and other things surrounding them. I could use their actions and possibly turn them into a group of intergalactic space pirates.
3. The attack on rock n' roll in the 1970's
I could focus on the societal issue mainly based in the Bible Belt states during the 1970's where the music genre of rock n' roll was heavily protested and blacklisted by parents. I could take the ideals expressed by the protesting party and take their words and make them literal. For instance, actually make a piece depicting in some way that rock n' roll is actually the music of the devil.
4. The Gang Wars of Los Angeles during the late 1980's to mid 1990's
Another possible topic to focus on could be the gang wars in LA during the latter portion of the 1980's to the middle part of the 1990's that the media covered to great detail. I could depict the separation of friends, or possibly incorporate graffiti tags into the pieces as well.
5. Piracy (1700's and current)
I could focus on basically piracy, from the swashbuckling swordsmen of the Caribbean all the way up to the digital pirates preventing artists around the globe from profiting off of their works. I could mix the two, and possibly depict a 18th century pirate trying to operate a computer in order to pirate music.
